Wolf L-Series Rotating Display Repair

I recently came into possession of a very-well-priced (suspiciously cheap) Wolf L Series wall oven that was in great condition except for the rotating display not rotating. I couldn’t find any other threads online about repairing this, so I figured I’d make a post here in case this can help someone.

While I could find what looks like replacement motors online (MP50ED model motors look like a good swap, just the main gear needs to be transplanted) mine made noises so I figured it was worth opening up.

The only difficult part about getting inside was removing the top-most layer, which is a metal plate that is kept in place with little clips of metal bent inwards from the frame. You’ll need some good long pliers to bend those back. In my case I ended up mangling this metal layer and had to spend a lot of time getting it back to being flat enough for reinstallation.

Motor Disassembled, circled item is the two pieces that I reglued.

What I found was not as expected, all the small plastic gears looked to be in good condition. While I’m sure they could definitely have broken and been an issue in other cases, they weren’t here. Instead the issue seemed to be the main plastic “driveshaft” that was attached to the magnet: it spun pretty freely. I’m guessing it was originally adhered to the magnet at its base. I used a plastic bonder to bond it to the magnet and reassembled, when reinserting into the oven assembly it didn’t want to be tightened too much into the bracket else it put too much pressure on the gears and wouldn’t turn. Probably due to my less than perfect reassembly and the age of the motor.

Oven reassembled and tested.
